Lee Roy Selmon's past combines the advantages of family football scholarship with community service. He was the eldest child from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon. They took care of him at their property in Eufala. On the football field, he competed with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. A year later, in 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Oklahoma has won two National Championships throughout the span of three seasons as the player of the team. Selmon received a third scholarship in 1975, and was named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon graduated with a degree of education. Fourth service In college Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. He moved to Tampa following his college years, playing in the Buccaneers for 9 years and was three-time all-pro. His business career began. In 1988, he was appointed an account manager for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these associations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that it was a surprise to hear that he was voted one of the top 10 young men across the United States according to the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing a little over 256 pounds. He played for his school's team in the year 1975. He was promoted to the associate director of athletics at the University of South Florida, in 1993. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
